ROKUSHAKU BO (6 Foot Staff)

Staff weapons of varying lengths have been both ceremonially and combatively used since earliest times. One of the standard 5 systematized weapons of Kobudo, the Bo is the preferred favorite in many traditional martial arts schools. This expertly instructed eight week course will cover fundamental gripping, manipulations, postures, body movements, strategic anatomical targeting, parrying, training drills, formal patterns (Kata) with grappling applications, engagement strategies, and techniques. It will also feature extremely rare Rokushaku Bo grappling applications usually found only in high level instructor training courses in Japan and Okinawa. In addition, internationally recognized and standardized formal exercises (Kata) will be presented. You would be hard pressed to find a more practical weapon to learn than the Rokushaku Bo.

TONFA (Handle)

The Tonfa (Tohn-fah) was one of the many primitive agricultural instruments utilized by the Okinawan people in their struggle against the ravaging Samurai. The Tonfa was used by the farmers of Okinawa in a fierce guerrilla struggle against the Japanese conquerors and proved to be an extremely efficient weapon. The fact that the warriors would look upon it as purely a farmer's tool gave the added advantage of surprise. The blocking potential of this weapon is very good and an expert can whirl it at a very high speed. This coupled with its weight gave it a lethal reputation. Today, Tonfa experts are quite rare and there is a chance of this art becoming extinct. Now is your chance to learn the authentic traditional techniques of the Tonfa. This eight week course will cover fundamental gripping, manipulations, postures, body movement, strategic anatomical targeting, twirling actions, training drills, engagement strategies, and techniques, and the internationally recognized and standardized formal exercise (Kata) Hamahiga no Tonfa with its unique grappling applications.

SAI (Truncheon)

The Sai is one of the most exotic of the classified martial arts weapons systems of Japan. The mere sight of one conjures up a wide variety of dynamic images in the imagination. The exact origin of the Sai is not clear. This is due to the fact that Sai techniques were practiced and developed in secrecy. The best accounts, from the highest ranking masters of Kobudo, trace the origins of the Sai back to a short sword carried by dignitaries in ancient times which eventually evolved to the unsharpened truncheon we know it as today. This eight week traditional course offers you the opportunity to learn the authentic method and application of the Sai from one of the few remaining experts. You will be instructed in fundamental gripping, manipulations, postures, body movement, strategic anatomical targeting, training drills, formal patterns (Kata) with grappling applications including Tsukenshitahaku no Sai, engagement strategies, and techniques.

NUNCHAKU (Flail)

Originally a farming implement used to pulverize grain, the Nunchaku has evolved into one of the most dynamic weapons ever devised. Sadly, fewer than a handful of true Nunchaku masters exist today and the authentic use of the Nunchaku is in danger of extinction. That is why you must attend this course if you have a serious interest in classical Okinawan weaponry. This eight week course will cover single and double Nunchaku fundamental gripping, manipulations, postures, body movement, strategic anatomical targeting, flailing actions, choking and grappling techniques, training drills, formal patterns (Kata), and engagement strategies.

Sadly, fewer than a handful of true Kama masters exist today and the authentic use of the Kama is in danger of extinction. That and the fact that Kama are the only edged weapons among the 5 standard Kobudo weaponry systems is why you must attend this course if you have a serious interest in classical Okinawan weaponry.
